The key thing is to get the topology correct, one eero has to be the head and be upstream of all others (if the other eero are wireless this is automatic), Topology should be modem/internet->router (if using your own, eero does work as a router)->gateway eero->switch->all other hardwired devices including hardwired eero Mixed wireless/hardline mesh - Nothing wrong with this, you can have some eero hardwired and some wireless and there will not be a problem. If the eeros lose power, or are rebooted, they need access to the internet to come online fully. You are correct, if the internet goes out but power is still on, local LAN will still work on the eero. I can't find Legacy Mode in my Eero setup - might be a newer thing.

Switches: I have my Gateway Eero Pro connected to a 1GbE unmanaged TP-Link 8 port desktop switch and everything that's connected to it works a treat. Once they've settled on which node they're connected to, they seem ok, but if they bounce around (eg they're in a signal overlap area) that seems to mess HomeKit and Thread up Seems to be a terminal issue with the device itselfĪpple HomePod Minis really don't seem to like mesh networks. They're dumped in a box in disgrace but I might try them out again some day - they're surplus to requirements right nowĪqara E1 hub refuses to work if WPA3 is enabled. Meross MSS220 Plugs didn't seem to like Eero. Doesn't seem to cause any functionality problems and fix is to reserve an IP4 address and reboot the device Meross MSS110 Mini Plugs don't seem to get a valid IP4 address if IP6 is enabled. One Logitech Circle 2 disconnected and refused to ever connect again (possibly unlucky coincidence with it failing) Most worked ok and most worked if I turned off 5GHz temporarily. IoT devices: I've got a lot of HomeKit, Thread and Zigbee stuff. I typically get 20Mbps upstairs which again is pretty good. I consistently get 30Mbps from the garden Eero which is pretty good IMO. I have my a Pro as the gateway, then a regular Gen 2 upstairs using wifi backhaul and another Gen 2 in the garden using wired Ethernet over PowerLine. Mixed wifi and hardwired backhaul: I'm doing this and it works great. I'm not a power user, having only 33/10 from my ISP. For context, I have WPA3, IPV6, Optimise for Gaming all on. Some comments from me but bear in mind I've got the Gen.2 Pro, not the newer kit. Any comments and thoughts are appreciated!

Worst case down the line, I believe I can just use some random router as an AP to segregate my IOT. The main large concern for me is the local WIFI, and network switches. Will being unable to separate out the bands become an issue? Number of devices / IOT - I haven’t found much, some devices for iot don’t support 5ghz, some do. I’ve found some pages confirming just plug a switch up and your golden, is this accurate?

Network switches - the basement (my office) will over time, contain various IT projects, a pihole, home assistant, and file server. This is likely a failure in my research methodology/terms. Mixed mode wireless/hardline mesh - one use case is the living room on the opposite end of the house (rectangle shape) would be a wireless mesh, modem and gateway in bedroom, and in the basement middle of the house a hardline satellite. If the eero powers off then on if internet is still out, it’s supposedly a problem? If it’s an internet outage but not a power outage, things are supposedly fine. Local WiFi during an outage - I find mixed reports threads of various ages stating this is and is not a problem. I eventually realized the nuts and bolts of development and automation are my jam, and have went back and graduated with something I truly love. I was doing good, but realized networking wasn’t for me and disgusts me, thus my attraction to Eero. Networking made me drop out of college and question my life choices.

I’m a software engineer, let me be ABSOLUTELY clear that does not equate to network engineer.

I’ve been doing research as it’s not open yet, trying to figure out how to configure the ATT 2xx ONT, and came across a few things that seem concerning and I’d like clarification on. I get home and realize for 479 price match, I was given (and rang up) the eero 6E pro 3 pack, not the 6 pro 3 pack. Guy verified on Amazon, goes to the back grabs the box and price matches. I decided to bite the bullet as I need wifi6 and now, it was their only option, and they explained Eero is perfect for IDGAF about networking folks like myself. Bt wifi 6 review.Through as Bob Ross would say, a “happy accident”, I was discussing at the store about price matching the eero pro 6 with Amazon.
